Wheat also mildly favored the downside. Grain traders await USDA’s Grain Stocks Report and Small Grains Summary at 11:00 a.m. CT. The broader marketplace is anxious as a U.S. government shutdown looms at midnight if lawmakers can’t reach an 11th hour stopgap spending agreement. Gov’t shutdown looms Lawmakers emerged from a meeting at the White House on Monday with President Trump and indicated that no deal had been reached to keep the government operating past tonight’s midnight deadline. Democrats and Republicans are seemingly no closer to agreeing on a plan to fund the government, with both sides blaming each other for the stalemate. A shutdown would impact USDA and economic data. Another Grain Stocks Surprise? USDA’s Grain Stocks Report has become known for its misses versus analyst expectations, especially for corn. In eight of the past 10 years Sept. 1 corn stocks have been below market expectations, with the average miss by analysts being 78 million bu. too high during that span.
