On the Grains
USDA’s outlook forum seems front and center on everybody’s mind. While we all know it will happen, we hope it doesn’t, corn acres will be higher potentially enough that we will be waiting on a drought to support prices. Weekly fertilizer trends for six of the eight products were higher month-over-month, with urea, 28% and 32% noticeably higher. While it is possible there is more to it than just increased sales, such as logistics, sales are increasing at the retail level, and it’s difficult to believe that’s not a solid indicator of more acres. The potash was slightly lower, I expected the bulk of the potash was applied last fall.
